AUGUST 2023 PARENT NEWSLETTER

AUGUST TUITION

Payment for tuition/fees is exclusively accepted through our tuition software, and it will appear as a draft from your bank by Lincoln Savings Bank.

A late fee of $50.00 per month will be imposed on the 6th. If tuition remains unpaid for two consecutive weeks, the child may be withdrawn, and the spot will promptly be filled with a family from the waitlist.

Absences cannot be compensated by attending on an alternative day.

Invoices will be sent to the parent/guardian’s email on record. A New Day CDC prioritizes environmental sustainability and, therefore, issues receipts via email to the individual financially responsible each month during the tuition processing. These receipts contain all necessary information for taxes, HSA, and FSA purposes.

Tuition may be adjusted when necessary, with a complete 30-day written notice to the administration office of A New Day CDC from the parents. Kindly direct written emails to irma@anewdaycdc.com.

In instances where circumstances or hardships make it challenging to pay tuition, please reach out to Irma to arrange a payment schedule and sign a payment agreement. No refunds or prorates are issued for absences, adverse weather days, vacations, teacher in-service days, holidays, or any day the school is closed due to unforeseen circumstances, including closures initiated by state officials, CDC, or administration.

2023-2023 FROG STREET CURRICULUM

Since we are now a Texas Rising Star school we are switching our preschool curriculum over to the Frog Street Curriculum.

INFANT CURRICULUM

Designed around early brain research, the Frog Street Infant curriculum equips caregivers to foster essential growth and build a strong learning foundation. The curriculum for childcare centers encourages caregiver and child interactions to develop rich oral language and vocabulary as well as strong social and emotional connections. This infant curriculum for 0-18 months includes easy-to-use activities that can be easily incorporated into daily routines to help young children meet developmental milestones.

Frog Street Infant curriculum is a bilingual program, with all materials available in English and Spanish.

2-YEAR-OLD CURRICULUM

Designed around the latest scientific early brain development research, Frog Street’s Toddler curriculum is a year-round program for children ages 18-36 months that focuses on enhancing the simple joy of childhood while equipping caregivers to nurture curiosity through exploration.

Key features of the Frog Street Toddler curriculum include:

·      Activity choices organized around five developmental domains.

·      Differentiated instruction options to meet the needs of all learners.

·      Easy infusion into daily routines, such as diaper changing, transitions, and outdoor play.

·      Designed to help children move forward in their development.

With our curriculum for toddlers and 2-year-olds, children will be immersed in a language-rich environment essential for developing both receptive and expressive language skills. This toddler curriculum includes high-interest books, stories, songs, poems, and chants that will amuse and delight toddlers.

The activity choices in the physical development domain provide toddlers with fun physical challenges, action songs, and games that will build coordination, balance, and muscle strength. Cognitive development elements include engaging activities that support cause-and-effect relationships and problem solving to develop foundational skills for lifelong learning.

Frog Street’s toddler and 2-year-old curriculum allows toddlers to build confidence with a special emphasis on social-emotional development, learning impulse control, and developing social skills. Caregivers build trusting relationships with children through one-on-one, partner, and small-group interactions.

3-YEAR-OLD CURRICULUM

Frog Street’s curriculum for 3-year-olds uses early brain-development research as the framework for instruction and offers strong daily routines that develop key social and emotional skills.

This 3-year-old preschool curriculum also balances intentional instruction with child-directed play, and values individual differences. It provides comprehensive, integrated, thematic activities in all disciplines and domains.

Adult and child interactions are encouraged to help children develop rich oral language and vocabulary as well as strong social and emotional connections. Frog Street Threes provides materials and strategies for maintaining healthy family partnerships and embracing the joy of learning every day!

PRE-K 4–5-YEAR-OLD CURRICULUM ENSURES TEACHERS AND CHILDREN THRIVE IN THE CLASSROOM

Key learning domains are woven into every aspect of Frog Street’s curriculum for Pre-K, and weekly instructional plans are easy to follow and implement with fidelity. Integrated STEAM projects promote problem-solving and beginning coding skills. Interactive digital programs support virtual learning and families at home. An exclusive partnership with the Conscious Discipline® program provides the tools for a strong social-emotional foundation.

Our pre-kindergarten curriculum includes a research-based scope & sequence for literacy, math, and content domains. Acknowledging the individual needs of ALL learners, the pre-k curriculum includes strategies for differentiated instruction, and adaptations for special needs and English Language Learners, and more. Cultural responsiveness strategies are also included at point-of-use, with prompts and reminders to help teachers maintain an anti-bias mindset. A fully integrated digital assessment tool informs instruction, and professional development tips at point-of-use help to build teacher capacity.

Activities for Home

Under the Night Sky

Sit outside together u der the night sky. Can you see many stars where you are? Ask your child to help you find constellations if stars are visible. Orion is typically easy to spot in North America! Is the moon out?

Can your child tell you what phase the moon is in? Sing fun songs and roast marshmallows on a grill or outdoor controlled “campfire.”

  • Playground "I Spy"

Make a trip to the playground for a game of "I Spy." Take turns with your child making riddles of the things you see there. For example, you might start by saying, "I spy something yellow, twisty, and tall" to describe a yellow spiral slide. Once your child has guessed the answer, invite them to try making their own "I Spy" riddle for you to solve.

My Project: Campfire When I bring this project home, we can:

  • Talk about how I made the logs and fire.

  • Make a pretend campfire in the house with cushions and blankets!

My Project: Sun Catcher When I bring this project home, we can:

  • Display it in or near a window.

  • Talk about the colors I used and how they changed when they

mixed together in the glue.

Alphabet Words:

Robot, Swan, Toast, Umpire, Vacuum,

Wave, X-ray, Yarn, Zucchini

LOOK FOR BOOKS:

The best way to learn which books your child enjoys is to read children’s books— lots of them! Check out the Resources tab at funshineexpress.com for Book Lists corresponding to each month’s themes. Get to know your local librarians and ask for their recommendations as well.

Sing Along with Me

“Summertime”

Sung to “Jingle Bells”

In the summertime we play; We have fun every day. We like to swim and ride; We like to swing and slide. We chase a ball and run; We tumble in the sun. We laugh and play all summer long, And sing our happy song. Oh!

Chorus:Summertime, summertime, Summertime is here.Clap your hands and twirl around, And give a happy cheer.

Repeat chorus.Repeat first verse and chorus.

Cooking Together

Rainbow Yogurt Bark

2 cups plain full-fat yogurt OR Greek yogurt 2–4 T. honey

2 cups chopped fruit (fresh or frozen)

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Invite your child to help stir the yogurt and honey together in a medium bowl. Pour the yogurt onto the baking sheet and spread with a spatula until it is an even layer. Invite your child to sprinkle the fruit on top. Freeze for at least 5 hours. Once the yogurt bark is frozen solid, break it into chunks with your hands.

Your child may enjoy this frozen treat as a snack or as a fun addition to breakfast! Store leftovers in an airtight

container in the freezer.

CHANGE OF CLOTHES

For safety during outside play, we recommend that children wear tennis shoes or closed-toed shoes with an enclosed heel. Flip-flops make it difficult to run and climb safely. Sneakers allow children to fully experience the playground in a safe manner. We ask that children wear shoes that they can put on with minimal assistance, such as sneakers with Velcro.

PLEASE, pretty, pretty please don’t have your child wear shoes with laces unless they can tie them by themselves. As you can imagine, trying to tie 10 or more pairs of shoes all day long can be exhausting on our teachers! Even worse is when they come out of the bathroom with their laces untied and you go to tie them, and they are wet… So please, Velcro is best!
