THEMES FOR MAY

BOOKWORMS ON THE GO

Help children get excited about the wonderful world of books! Learn about libraries and the special care books need. We will focus on a favorite children’s book author or illustrator each day during this theme.

NURTURE NATURE:

During this theme, the children will acquaint themselves with the wonderful, natural qualities of the earth. Our planet is a special place. The children will learn how to protect and show respect for all living things. Get outside and look for signs that the world is alive! Embark on an outdoor journey to connect with nature

ACTIVITIES FOR HOME

  • Open your child’s eyes to the world of books. Visit the library or bookmobile in your community. Attend a story hour or puppet show. Browse through the local bookstore. Check with your library to see if they have a summer reading program. Sign up your child and then check out some fun books together.
  • Make it a daily ritual to show gratitude for nature’s gifts in the natural world – the sun, trees, flowers, etc. Create a special “Gratitude Day.” Find a place where you have a clear view of the rising sun. Wake your child up early to see the sunrise. Build anticipation for the first glimpse of the sun! Take a simple breakfast outdoors. Watching the sun sink below the horizon at sundown. End the day by a window and encourage your child to say good night to the moon, the stars, the animals, or a favorite tree. Express your gratitude for the lovely day!

Dandelion Puff Sung to “I’m a Little Teapot”

I’m a dandelion tiny and small, (Crouch down.)

Growing in the sunshine, stretching tall! (Slowly stand up.)

My bright yellow blossom turns to fluff, (Circle arms over head.)

Waiting for the wind to huff and puff! (Put hands over mouth to blow.)

I’m a dandelion tiny and small, (Crouch down.)

Growing in the sunshine, stretching tall! (Slowly stand up.)

All my little seeds will float away, (Dance fingers around face.)

Riding on the wind, this bright sunny day! (Move about with outstretched arms.)

PULL-UPS FOR YOUR CHILD

When buying pull-ups for your child, please be sure to buy the ones that open up on the sides.  Its pretty difficult on the teachers who have to get the kids completely undressed in order to change their pull-up.  Thanks for your understanding.

PARKING LOT ENTRANCE & EXIT

When bringing your child to school please be sure to enter the driveway on the right of the building to enter into the school parking lot and use the one on the left side of the building to exit. This will help with the traffic flow during the busy times of the day.  Please be sure to pull all the way into the driveway and not block the driveway so that others may pull in as well.

RETURN BLANKETS & PILLOW CASES

Blankets and pillow cases are sent home every other Friday to be cleaned and sanitized by the parents.  PLEASE BE SURE TO SEND THEM BACK  the following Monday so that your child will have it for nap-time.

CHANGE OF CLOTHES

Please be sure to check your child’s cubby to make sure that they have the correct change of clothes for this season.  Simple clothing that is washable will allow your child to participate comfortably in playground activities, and messy art activities. Each child must wear tennis shoes.Velcro ties are preferred.  For safety reasons, no sandals, Crocs or open toed shoes please.

Each child will need to have a hat to leave here in their cubby to wear when we go outside each day.  Also remember to apply sunscreen to your child each morning before sending them to school.  We will re-apply when we go out in the afternoons.
