TO MARKET, TO MARKET

Gather the children for a trip to the farmers market or local store, where they will learn about the all kinds of interesting things to buy! The children will pretend to choose products to purchase, pay for them, and use appropriate manners in the checkout lane.

SPORTS TALK

Introduce your little athletes to this all-star sports theme! They’ll learn about many different types of sports and their equipment, game rules, different types of athletes, and sportsmanship.

ACTIVITIES FOR HOME

• Visit a farmers market together this summer. As you walk through the market, talk about the fruits, vegetables, meats, and other products people are selling. Help children notice the buying and selling of items.

• July 4 is Independence Day. Provide paper, paints, and starshaped cookie cutters. Show your child how to dip a cookie cutter into the paint and then press it onto the paper. Do this several times to create a sky full of stars. Display the artwork on your front door and decorate the door with red, white, and blue streamers.

• Play ball with your child outside. Practice tossing a football back and forth, kicking a soccer ball, playing T-ball, putting around a golf ball, etc. Above all else, simply go outdoors and have fun.

• July 19 is National Ice Cream Day! Offer your child’s favorite ice cream flavors and a variety of toppings to create your own sundaes together.

HELP ME REVIEW:

In the summer months, we review all the letters of the alphabet, numbers 1-20, colors, and shapes. Read alphabet and number books to your child to reinforce this review. Practice counting items around the house and sing “The Alphabet Song” with your child as you go about your day. Name colors and shapes as you see them outdoors while enjoying summertime activities.
